We’re back!  Sorry.  I don’t think I have the heart to tell you, but we are without Aaron this week. But I won’t be heartless and make you listen to just me talk about this song.  Erik Butterworth, a long time fan of BNL is here to join us.  Oh, and we will be talking about Half A Heart.

  1. I’m jealous of the Canadian fans who’s gotten nice indoor concerts in winter. I’ve spent far too many hours absolutely melting in the hot summer sun on miserable days to be outside, just to be able to see the band. Those days of heat stroke and soaked thru shirts made me feel like it was literally the last summer on earth

Speaking of those tours, part of the fun has been seeing the bands that influenced them, from OMD to Howard Jones to Violent Femmes to Colin Hay and such, as opening acts. The sorry ones this summer make me hope they’re not done with these great 80s artists and moving on to forgettable 90’s ones like Gin Blossoms.

As to two versions of “Half a Heart”, I thought the drums were more interesting on the original/demo version from the Maroon era, and the bassline was way cooler (I love what Jim’s doing on that version), but what those guys provide on the “finished” version from BLAM works better for the song overall, as the original does kinda border on boring. But I do kinda hate the sound that comes off like a click track on the bridge of the BLAM version.

    1. I love that you posted it both here and on the Facebook. 🙂 It’s going to be on our next recorded episode.
